Teen Court program offers
A program of The Mediation Center of Eastern Carolina called <"e>Teen Court<"e> is an option to Juvenile Court for first-time offenders between the ages of ten and seventeen. Teen Court avoids juvenile court and the instance of a criminal record. The Teen Court option is available when Laurie Ann Kritz, Teen Court coordinator, is given a referral. She reviews the details of the case to find out if the delinquency is acceptable for Teen Court. Kritz meets with the offender and his or her parents to review the case and describe guidelines which guarantee the family?s privacy. Teen Court jurors complete training and pass an exam before being assigned to service, defense or prosecuting attorneys or other courtroom roles.
