Sentence's Fairness Questioned
An attorney raised questioned regarding the fairness for a Wailuku woman as she was sentenced to a one-year jail term for burglaries and an accident that injured a strider. "I don't know where America's going when a vice president can shoot somebody . . . and not have any kind of criminal prosecution, and my client - based on very nominal inattentive conduct - is being brought in court for the state to pursue a civil suit," said Deputy Public Defender Jon Apo. "My client was driving very slowly and prudently. There's no skid marks. There's a relatively nominal injury." Apo represented 38-year-old Brenda Cordy on a charge of first-degree slipshod injury.
